THE BARSTOW FAMILY
I. WILLIAM BARSTOW b. 1612 in England. He was the son of Mathew Barstow of
Shelf, near Halifax, Yorkshire, England. He came to America, probably on
the TRUELOVE, arriving Sept. 12, 1635. He settled at Dedham, Mass., then
moved to Scituate in 1649 and lived in the part of the town which became
Hanover, Mass. He was soon made a Freeman. William Barstow was a ship-
builder and also built the first bridge over the North River at Stony Beach
in 1657. He became the owner and proprietor of a tavern there. He was a
highway surveyor, and a member of the committee to "perambulate the patent
line in 1666". He married Anna Hubbard in 1638. He died at Scituate,
Mass., June 1, 1668/9. Anna's second husband was John Prince.
II. JOHN BARSTOW, son of Anna and William Barstow, lived at Watertown, Mass. He
married Lydia Hatch. (A John Barstow, possibly this one, fell through the
ice and died in 1657.)
III. JOB BARSTOW b. Mar. 8, 1679, at Scituate, Mass. He married Rebecca Bushnell
Mar. 2, 1707/8. They moved to Norwich Farms, Conn. He was an administrator
at Norwich 1708. He and his wife, Rebecca, their daughter, Abigail, and
Joseph Bushnell were baptized Aug. 9, 1709. Their sons were named Jonathon,
Ebenezer, and Yet Once. He was a Selectman in 1725.
IV. ABIGAIL BARSTOW b. Dec. 16, 1726/7, m. Jan. 19, 1747/8, Daniel Kingsbury, of
Norwich.
V. ABIGAIL KINGSBURY b. Nov. 13, 1748, m. July 16, 1767, Abner Pride, also of
Norwich. They moved to Vermont.
VI. ABIGAIL PRIDE m. Barna Bigelow

Her second husband was John Prince.
